Belgrade, April 12th 2016 – In EU info center premises Centre for youth integration and EU info centre have organized creative workshop “All men have the stars, but they do not mean the same things for different people” for 50 beneficiaries of Drop in shelters from Zvezdara and New Belgrade municipalities in order to promote International day of street involved children and beginning of EU support to the project “Drop-In Shelter for Street-Involved Children in Belgrade”. Head of Operations I of the EU Delegation, Mr. Nicolas Bizel and Mr. Aleksandar Rankovic, IPA UNIT of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs have attended the event and supported the beginning of the activity which will contribute to social inclusion and improve the capacities of Centre for youth integration which provides support to street involved children for the last 12 years.

Project is financially supported by European Union and implemented by Centre for youth integration from Belgrade. This activity is part of the project “European Union Support to Inclusive Society”, financed by the EU with EUR 5.4 million, and implemented by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs. Project duration is 24 months and value of the project is 113.000 EUR.

Project “Drop-In Shelter for Street-Involved Children in Belgrade” supports street-involved children in Belgrade. Our mission is to contribute to making an inclusive society, together with children and community.

The most important goals of the project are forming a network of partners in the community as a base for a more efficient support to these children and create opportunities for 320 street-involved children age 5 to 15, to connect with the community in order to provide an easier access to educational, healthcare and other relevant institutions in the system.

Representatives of European Integration Office at the Government of the Republic of Serbia, National Roma Council of Serbia, Secretary for social protection, Municipalities of Zvezdara and New Belgrade, City Centre for Social Work, Municipal Pedagogical Assistants, Municipal Health Mediators, City School Administration, Ministry of Interior – department for juvenile delinquency, City run shelter, Faculty for special education and rehabilitation, Faculty for Political science, Beneficiaries of Drop in shelter, Center for youth integration volunteers and team of professionals from Drop in shelter attended the event organized on April 12th 2016 in EU info center.

The “European Union Support to Inclusive Society”, a project funded by the European Union with EUR 5.4 million, aims to ensure greater social inclusion of vulnerable groups in Serbia such as elderly, children, minorities including Roma and others. Through the project the EU has granted EUR 4.3 million as 28 grants, which will be implemented in 36 cities and municipalities in Serbia by the end of 2017. The projects implemented by the national and provincial social welfare institutions, municipalities and cities, social welfare centers, citizens, associations, foundations, educational institutions and public companies will increase the scope and quality of services at the local level in social and health care, housing, education and employment, and thereby strengthen the social inclusion of vulnerable groups.The project is implemented by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.
