The project ‘‘Home Care for a Dignified Old Age” is the first project for which the Municipality Varvarin received a direct grant from the European Union. The project is implemented in partnership Varvarin Municipality and the CA ”Evrokontakt” Krusevac. The value of the project amounts to 187,211.53 euros, of which the European Union grants 152,970.54 euros.
The project was created as a reflection of real needs of the Municipality to work on the development of social welfare services. As funds from the local budget are insufficient to meet all the needs of local community, the local government has decided to improve the existing and introduce new services in the field of social protection through development projects, with the help of donor funds, while seeking to ensure their long term sustainability.
Objective of the project is improvement of the social protection services for elderly citizens in municipality Varvarin through introducing the service of home care, in line with national standards and regulations in the area of providing services of social protection.
The most important activity of the project is to provide home care service for the elderly. The organization and provision of service will be in full compliance with the relevant national standards and regulations in the field of social protection. The most important novelty is that this time the use of the service will be enabled to the elderly who are not in social need, who will be able to co-finance the provision of services and thus contribute to that it has a sustainable character – to provide funds necessary for the Municipality of Varvarin to continue to organize the provision of services after completion of the project without donor support.
The “European Union Support to Inclusive Society”, a project funded by the European Union with EUR 5.4 million, aims to ensure greater social inclusion of vulnerable groups in Serbia such as elderly, children, minorities including Roma and others. Through the project the EU has granted EUR 4.3 million as 28 grants, which will be implemented in 36 cities and municipalities in Serbia by the end of 2017. The projects implemented by the national and provincial social welfare institutions, municipalities and cities, social welfare centers, citizens associations, foundations, educational institutions and public companies will increase the scope and quality of services at the local level in social and health care, housing, education and employment, and thereby strengthen the social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
The project is implemented by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs. More about the project can be found on www.socijalnainkluzija.rs
